Hey I'm Erin
Yesterday we celebrated my son’s 11th birthday! I can’t believe my little guy is 11, and will be in middle school next year. Being that he is my only son, Jason definitely holds a special place in my heart and is a total mommy’s boy. He is just the sweetest kid. He’s smart, sensitive, and funny. He’s never been a typical rough and tumble boy (maybe because he lives with a lot of girls). He instead is gentle and kind, as well as intuitive and sympathetic. He can be very tentative and quiet in some situations, but if he knows you well you can count on him to be a jokester and constantly crack corny jokes.
Before I tell you about Jason’s cute LEGO themed birthday party we had yesterday (with party supply products and toys all from Walmart), I thought I’d give you a little look back at why we had to wait extra long to have Jason, and why we are so grateful for him!
Jason: Our Rainbow Baby
He was actually the one pregnancy we carefully planned for, though he was also the most difficult baby for us to have! We planned to start trying to get pregnant about 1.5 years after we had Ashley, my oldest. We were living in Northern California at the time, and I ended up getting pregnant after only a few months of trying. We were so excited! Unfortunately, during my 1st trimester, I ended up having a miscarriage. I was completely shocked and devastated because I thought maybe I wouldn’t be able to have more kids, or that it was always going to be really difficult to get pregnant. I worried about what I could have done wrong or maybe something was wrong with me!
Soon after the miscarriage, we ended up moving back to Arizona to be closer to our family. After many more months of trying, we finally got pregnant and I ended up having a healthy pregnancy. Though, I will say, that pregnancy was my most nerve-racking and hard. I was so worried that I was going to have another miscarriage, that every pain, every strange feeling, was the beginning of something bad.
I held out with Jason’s pregnancy until I was 38 weeks, all the while enduring a super hot Arizona summer. I remember the day I went into labor like it was yesterday because that was the day our air conditioning had gone out in the upstairs of our house (when it was 110 outside). I ended up sleeping on the floor in our family room the night before I had Jason (and the whole night I was having contractions)! The next day, I had to take my daughter to dance class. So I got up, got ready, took my daughter to get donuts and then to dance class. By the time I got home from dance, I was really feeling it, so we decided it was time to go to the hospital.
When I got to the hospital, I was already over 8 cm dilated and just about ready to go! Yikes! I wanted an epidural and I was so bummed that I had waited too long to go to the hospital!! As it turned out, they allowed me to get the epidural after all….I was so relieved! The epidural ended up slowing down my labor. So they had to give me pitocin to get things rolling. Thankfully, it only took a few hours and a few pushes and then my sweet son, Jason, was born at 38 weeks on August 30, 2008! He’s been a happy, healthy boy ever since. We feel so blessed to have him.
Right after I had Jason and 3 year old Ashley came to visit.
Lego Themed Birthday Party
Fast forward to today, and it’s so hard to believe that sweet little guy, our rainbow baby… is already 11! For his birthday yesterday, he decided he didn’t want a huge party. He instead just wanted a small celebration with his family and one friend. He is saving money up to buy a Mac Book so he didn’t want a ton of presents, and instead asked for money.
He doesn’t play with a ton of toys now that he’s older, however Jason still loves LEGOs…he has an engineer/builder mind! I think LEGOs are one toy that transcends all age groups. Everybody loves to create and build with LEGOs. We ended up surprising him these cute LEGO sets from Walmart! I didn’t realize until I started searching their website that Walmart has a great selection of LEGO sets. Actually, Walmart has become pretty much the only place I shop for my kids toys now…it’s definitely the best American toy store!
Since Jason is a huge Disney fan, we got him this {Steamboat Willie} classic Mickey LEGO set. The boat actually has a motion mechanism and when you move it along the counter the little steam stacks go up and down! So cute!
Jason is also major roller coaster aficionado ( he wants to be a Disney Imagineer when he grows up)! He is completely obsesses with the design and engineering of roller coasters, so this cute {Pirate themed roller coaster LEGO set} from Walmart seemed to be a perfect fit! I love that you can move the roller coaster car around on the track! Jason, his dad, and his younger sister had fun assembling the sets together! He was so sweet to let his younger sister have a chance to help build and play with his new LEGO creations.
Walmart also has a huge replica roller coaster LEGO set, but we will save that one for maybe Christmas or perhaps he’ll save his money up for that one! He would love to have it displayed in his room! Check out Walmart’s huge selection of LEGO sets below!
We decided on a LEGO themed birthday celebration (or “building block” party if you’re searching their site for party supplies) for Jason to go along with his new birthday gifts. I got the cute plates, cups, and napkins from Walmart’s new Birthday Shop! They have tried to make it super easy for planning birthdays with themed birthday supply sets and premium birthday party supplies. Check out the Birthday Shop at Walmart here…there are so many cute themed party ideas!
We got this cute LEGO cake topper from Walmart! A lever in the back opens the top and this little LEGO guy pops out!
Well I know this was a little bit of a departure from my normal posts, but I wanted to share with you a little peek inside our family and how we were so lucky to have this amazing kiddo come into our lives! Thanks for stopping by!
