Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Hey I'm Erin
Hey guys! Today I’m excited to be showing you my son’s new desk area! I partnered with The Home Depot to give you some ideas on how to get your kids’ desk/home work areas organized and Back-to-School ready! The Home Depot has a huge selection of desk supplies, home office furniture, and organizational products to get your student ready for school, whether they’re still in elementary school or heading off to college for the first time!

My son had a desk in his room before we decided to upgrade to this one from The Home Depot. Unfortunately the old desk wasn’t very good quality, nor was the desk chair we had prior to this one, so they didn’t last very long. My son sits in this space for several hours every day doing homework and playing his video games, so he wanted a space that was comfortable, but also had enough work space.
The biggest change we did to his room was to move his dresser from this far wall to the wall opposite his bed, which allowed us to create a large and more open work space. Before, his desk chair backed right up against his bed, which wasn’t ideal. Now he has plenty of room to move around in his chair and won’t feel cramped while working on his homework.
I found this great light color wood desk on The Home Depot’s website. The OneSpace USB and Charger Hub Light Oak Executive Desk with Hutch is such an affordable option for a kid’s room at only $172. Plus it comes in several different wood colors. The size of the desk was perfect for this space, but the selling point for me was the built in USB ports for all of my son’s devices. He can now charge is phone and computer without having a ton of extension cords underneath his desk. Check out some other desk options from The Home Depot below.
Jason needed a good quality desk chair, that not only would be comfortable, but also something durable enough to stand up to heavy use. I found this Poly and Bark Terracotta Manchester Office Chair on The Home Depot’s website. This faux leather chair is really cushiony and I love the rich color of the fabric. I’ve linked this desk chair as well as some others from The Home Depot below.
I added this industrial style lamp to the desk to give my son a good work light to do his homework. Unfortunately, his chandelier doesn’t provide very good light for him, so a desk lamp was a must. The Bessy Warm Bronze Desk Lamp with Mercury Glass Shade is also from The Home Depot. I love the vintage/industrial feel to the lamp, plus the shade can be moved up and down to direct the light as needed.
Lastly, I added this bulletin board and matching chalk board to the wall above his desk. Jason can use these to keep track of important papers or write reminders for himself! The Home Depot has a ton of different wall decor organizational products like these to get your kiddos organized for school. The Home Depot has become one of my favorite places to shop for home decor and furniture because they have such a great selection of brand name products for low prices. Plus you get free, fast shipping on orders over $45 and can return any product for free to any local The Home Depot store!
Well, we are just about done with the changes we plan to make in my son’s room. The only other thing he’d like to do is change out the theme of his room to something a little more mature…so stay tuned for that! I hope this blog post helped you get some ideas of how to create an affordable, yet functional work space for your kids! Thanks for stopping by!
