Hey friends! I’m excited to share with you my partnership with Minted to find the perfect piece of artwork for my living room. I love art because it’s one of the best ways to bring color, personality, and visual interest into your home. The right piece of art can completely change the mood of your room.  The problem is that choosing the right artwork for your home can sometimes be a difficult task. I have hit many roadblocks, and toyed with many different options when trying to figure out what direction I want to go with the style, color and style of the art in my home.

My living room has a huge empty and sort of awkward wall. It is opposite the big set of windows in my living room and between both an archway and a built in bookshelf. I decided to make this spot a sort of reading nook, with a large chair an ottoman, because there needed to be a larger piece of furniture to fill the space.  Since living in my home, I’ve had several different options of art and furniture arrangements to try to fill this large wall space. I’ve used four small square canvases, then 4 larger framed prints, but I had always hoped to add one large statement making piece of art to really complete this space!

Check out the before and after of this space. I felt the four small canvases seemed too small for the space. I love the look of the one large impact piece of art so much better! It creates a less cluttered look! What do you think?

I searched Minted.com for the perfect piece of art that would reflect my taste, my modern farmhouse style home, and fit in with the neutral color scheme of the decor in the space. This gorgeous original botanical print called “Greyscale Poppies” by Shannon Kirsten, immediately struck me when I saw it. You also can decide on the size of your artwork, and if you want to have your art framed in one of Minted’s 15  different frame styles. I chose the Whitewash French Farmhouse style frame seen below.

Consider Using a Large Piece of Art for a Big Impact in Your Home

When filling a large blank wall in your home, try using large scale art, versus using several smaller pieces of art grouped together. The result will feel less cluttered and the art will make more of an impact in your space! The general rule for selecting the size of the art is to fill between 2/3 to 3/4 of the wall space. This isn’t always possible if you have a wall as large as mine. I ordered the biggest piece of art I could get, and if it was any larger it probably would’ve looked way too big and dwarf the furniture around it! Additionally, when you style your decor around a large piece of art, keep things simple so that the artwork can shine!

The most important things to consider when choosing artwork for your home is to make sure you select a piece of art that helps bring visual interest to your space and brings balance or color to your room, but most of all, choose something that makes you happy when you see it!
