Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Hey friends! If you’ve been following my Instagram for a while, you know how much I love my new curtains and Roman Shades in my dining from Willow Bloom Home. Willow Bloom Home is the same company that did my fabulous window coverings in my living room. Ordering and installing window coverings in our home has been so easy with the help of Willow Bloom Home. You can see the blog post I did about the drapery in my living room here. You’ll notice that they have since changed their company name from Premier Curtain Studio to Willow Bloom Home.
Willow Bloom Home has been so amazing to work with. Their products are such high quality and well constructed. I love that they have such a large variety of fabrics and styles to choose from, and have been so helpful in the ordering and installation of our window coverings. It has been a breeze picking out, measuring, ordering and installing window coverings in our home. I thought I would take you through the process of picking out and installing your own window coverings, so you can see how easy it can be!
TIME FOR SOME PRIVACY
This past spring, we decided we needed to up our window covering game in the dining room when we noticed that we had a little bit of an issue with privacy in that space. One time, while walking around in a little bath robe, I looked up, and as luck would have it, there was a person looking down from that window! Oh hello neighbor, don’t mind me as I sink to the ground and crawl away! ???????? I had some inexpensive window coverings up in the room prior to this, but they were only decorative and couldn’t be closed all the way. So we decided it was time to get new window coverings that address our privacy issues. (click here for all other dining room sources)
DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF WINDOW COVERINGS YOU WANT
My first step in the process of getting window coverings for privacy, was to decide exactly what kind of window coverings would work in that space. In all my bedrooms and windows facing the street, we have plantation shutters. But for all the living areas, I wanted to keep the rooms light and bright. Aside from the neighbor situation, the only other problem is that dining room gets a ton of direct morning sunlight. I knew that I wanted to keep the windows open and free of any light filtering most of the day, so blinds and shutters were out. Roman shades seemed like the best option because they could easily be raised and lowered when needed, and also they had a soft and stylish feel. I also felt like I still wanted to frame the windows with draperies to give the room a polished look, so I chose to do decorative panels versus ones that would close all the way.
SELECTING COLOR, FABRIC, AND STYLE
When selecting the colors and fabric for my space, I wanted to keep with the neutral tones of my dining room. I selected the Malbec Linen fabric for the Roman shades and the Sheer Whipstitch curtains in white. I selected the Matte Black curtain rod with the Beveled Glass square finial in Matte Black. I chose a slight break (or puddle) for the way the curtains touched the ground. I like this style of curtain, which touches the floor with a little extra inch or two of fabric, because it’s classic, without being too formal. For the Shades, I added the privacy liner and the style of the Roman Shades is flat. Here are the 3 different options of Roman shade styles that you can choose from:
You also must select how you want to operate your Roman shades. With Willow Bloom Home there are three options: Cordless, cordlock system, and continuous loop. I chose the cordless option because these shades will remain open most of the time and wanted no cord to be visible at all. The cordless shades are really easy to use, simply pull the small sheer tab on the bottom of the shade to lower and push up to raise them.
Next it came time to measure for the window coverings. Willow Bloom Home sent me a guide for measurement which was really helpful. I measured, and of course double checked my measurements, before sending them off. Within a few weeks of placing my order, I had the custom made drapes and shades, as well as the beautiful black hardware I selected ready for installation!
INSTALLATION OF YOUR HARDWARE, CURTAINS, AND SHADES
My husband was able to install the shades, hardware, and curtains himself. It took roughly an hour to put up all the shades, the curtain rod, and curtains. You will need the following items for installation:
And as easy as that you have gorgeous custom window coverings at a much lower cost than having a company come in, measure, and install them for you (I know, I had several estimates done!). Willow Bloom Home was amazing to work with and always were so helpful in answering any questions I had. Their products are such a great quality and I think these window coverings really make this room feel complete and polished.
