Today I’m sharing some before and after photos of my mom’s independent living space and sharing how we did a little mini makeover last weekend in the bathroom in this space to give it an even more elegant look!

Last year at this time we were 4 months into a huge remodeling project in our upstairs space. We converted a large storage area into a “mother-in-law” suite for my mom with a full bathroom, kitchenette, and laundry room. The project took a total of 5 months and definitely was a lot to deal with for that long! But the end result was so worth the wait!

When the project was completed last summer, I loved most of our design choices, but I knew I wanted to change up the bathroom fixtures (the ones we originally chose were a little too modern) and also I wanted to add wallpaper. However I had no interest in tackling another project after just completing a major renovation. 

But this month, I finally decided to finish off my mom’s bathroom with some new gorgeous fixtures from Kohler that I found on Wayfair! I also found some gorgeous peel-and-stick wallpaper on Wayfair.com to install on the back wall in the bathroom!

The beautiful Kelston collection from Kohler happens to be on sale right now at Wayfair! So we thought this would be the perfect time to purchase and replace the faucet, towel bar and ring, as well as the toilet paper holder. We also switched out the mirror (I originally went with a black mirror…and it just didn’t work with the rest of the polished nickel fixtures in the space).

The wallpaper took about an hour and a half to install. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is usually super easy to apply…except when there are many cuts involved and a toilet to work around! But once it was completed, I loved the new elegant look! It’s a subtle pattern that won’t feel dated in a few years, yet it definitely added sophistication to the bathroom.

After adding all these finishing touches to my mom’s bathroom, I finally love how it looks! The polished chrome Kohler faucet and matching fixtures compliments the Kohler sink and the rest of the bathroom so well!
