I’ve been doing this İnstagram thing for over 3 years now and have never shown my closet to you guys! It’s not because it’s not a nice, big closet. Nope, it’s because I’m a slob when it comes to my closet. Ok, I’m not not really a slob, but I’m definitely organizationally challenged! I also am somewhat of a hoarder of clothes and shoes, which have just added the chaos that has slowly built up in my closet over the past few years.

But one great thing about this job of creating inspirational spaces for you all, is that it forces me to face these design and organizational challenges head on….and on a specific timeline! 😉 So today, with the help of eBay and their massive selection of all things to help you organize your space, I’m finally ready to reveal my BIG CLOSET MAKEOVER!

Declutter

The first step of my closet makeover is to declutter and remove all the unwanted items. I had clothing in there that I hadn’t worn since we moved into our house! So I took several large plastic garbage bags and dedicated some for trash and the others for giveaway. I went through every single item of clothing and pair of shoes I had in my closet! I donated all the usable clothes and threw away the rest!

Start with a clean slate

Once I went through all my clothes and shoes, I removed everything from my closet to start my organizing from scratch. Once everything was removed, I was able to get a better idea of the space I had and could create a plan for how I would fit it all back in. For items that I knew were going to be challenging to organize (i.e. how I was going to fit all my shoes onto my shelves), I figured out what space saver products I could purchase to solve those obstacles.

Purchase organizational/space saving products

I definitely had a lack of space for some of the items in my closet. For my abundance of shoes, I found a set of 24 Sterilite plastic boxes with lids on eBay! There were tons of different shoe storage options that I found on eBay….all brand new and available to purchase through the “Buy it Now” option. Check out eBay’s home organization page where they are having 30% lots of great storage solutions for your home! I was able to use eBay’s search tools to find exactly what I was looking for and for the best price since there are often multiple listings for the same item! I also found these cute closet organization labels on eBay! These shoe bins turned out great and now I can locate all my shoes easily, while still creating extra space so I can display my other, more frequently worn shoes.

I purchased some inexpensive bins for the top shelves of my closet to store my hats, winter wear, and other accessories (similar bins can be found here). I also purchased this cute multipurpose storage ottoman with leopard print on eBay to use in the middle of my closet. Inside I can store items that I want out of sight, and also it serves as a great place to sit while putting on shoes!

Bring back in everything

Once all the the storage challenges have been addressed (and you’ve given the shelves a good cleaning) it’s time to bring all the items back in the closet! To keep all your clothes easy to find, separate them by season and if you’re really adventurous you can group them by color!

Because I was able to get rid of so many clothes, I had a little extra space to create the perfect jewelry storage area. I got this really cute wooden mirror from eBay. I love that I have a place to see myself and try out my jewelry when I’m getting ready now!

Another great way to best utilize space in your closet and also to save yourself the hassle of clothes constantly falling of the hanger is this amazing velvet huggable Joy hangers! These hangers are an absolute must-have for your closet! I used eBay’s search tool to find the exact style of Joy hangers I was looking for and for the best price, saving me tons of money as compared to other retailers that sell these hangers! You can even set up search alerts on your eBay account, so if an item you’re looking for comes up with your exact search criteria, you’ll be notified by email! This is especially helpful if you use eBay to search for shoes or clothing items!

Give it some style

I decided to add this fun vintage looking brick removable wallpaper to add a little style to my closet! Peel-and-stick wallpaper is the easiest way to totally transform a small space! This particular was such great quality! It was much thicker than other peel-and-stick style wallpaper I’ve used before. I found it on eBay after simply searching for removable wallpaper!

I finished the space off with this cute white fur rug (repurposed from Kayla’s room…similar here). And I also added cute prints and mirrored frames on the walls above the closet shelving!

And voila…an organized closet! I’m sooooo happy this project is finished! It feels so good to walk into this space now, versus the anxiety causing space it once was!!
