Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Can you believe we have been in this new house for two months already?! I’m so excited to start sharing all our new spaces as we complete them. Today, I’m excited to share my son, Jason’s, room for the first time! We updated his furniture and gave his room a more grown-up and dramatic look with the help of some amazing new furniture, bedding, and several other products from The Home Depot!
Jason will be 13 later this year, so he has officially graduated from the little boy room stage. In our last house, I always took his lead as far as what he wanted for the theme of the room, but I usually just picked out all the colors and products for his room. This time around, however, I wanted to give him the opportunity to pick how his room would look from the colors, to the bedding and type of bed he wanted. Ultimately, he decided he still wanted to keep his room a “Star Wars” theme, but he wanted a darker, more masculine look to his space.
We started by picking out a new, more sturdy bed for him. His old bed was cute, but it wasn’t working for my growing kid! It started getting a bit squeaky too and made noise anytime he tried to turn over in bed. So we found this gorgeous solid wood bed, with herringbone detail at The Home Depot! Jason liked how it looked, that it was lower to the ground than his old bed, and it even has a storage drawer underneath the bed! The bed is made with high quality materials and real Acacia wood! My husband was impressed when he put it together and said it was one of the best beds he’s had to assemble as far as sturdiness and ease of assembly. Also, with this bed, you don’t need a box spring since the mattress sits directly on the bed support slats.

Next we decided to freshen up Jason’s bedding. I found this really pretty blue grid pattern comforter set at The Home Depot. I love the denim blue color and the weight of the fabric. It feels really high quality! The set also came with matching shams.
To create a really dramatic look in his room, we thought it would be fun to add a shiplap accent wall. Jason asked if the wall could be black or dark gray (we haven’t had a chance to paint it yet). We were able to use these great pre-primed fabricated shiplap boards from The Home Depot. It’s the same type of pine shiplap with a nickel gap we used in our old dining room.
Dusty installed the boards by attaching them with a nail gun (we didn’t glue the shiplap to the wall this time). The installation of the shiplap was super easy! Thankfully the shiplap came in a 12 foot long size (7 1/4 inch width) and Jason’s wall is 12 feet long! This really helped in speeding up the process of installing the boards! The whole project only took about 3-4 hours. Now, we just have to decide what color to paint the walls! I’m leaning toward a dark gray color! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
