Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
You guys know, if you’ve been following me for a while, that I LOVE to change up my pillows and throw blankets all the time, usually every season, but often even more frequent than that! It may seem like a small detail, but adding beautiful pillows and throws to a room can completely transform the feel of a space. Pillowscapes is a term I use to describe the combination, style, and number of pillows that you use on a sofa, bed, or bench. You can use pillows and throw blankets to create a beautiful, cohesive, and cozy look for your family and guests to enjoy this Fall.
One of my favorite places to look for pillows and throws for my home is World Market. They have a beautiful variety of different colors and textures of fabrics to chose from in their line of pillows and throws…plus, their products are super affordable! World Market has been one of my main go-to stores for home decor for years now. There are so many items that I currently feature in my kitchen and living room space are from World Market (i.e. my counter stools, my cutting boards, my fiddle fig tree with basket, and my coffee cup holder….just to name a few!)
I am so excited to partner with World Market on this post to show how to create a cohesive pillowscape that will transform any room into a warm and inviting space for you and your guests. I’m going to outline the things you need to keep in mind when selecting the right pillows and throws for your space. I also will be showing how you can contribute to a great cause and help those in need, just by purchasing some cozy blankets for your home from World Market. What could be better than creating a beautiful space for your family, while also giving back to your community?!
When designing a “pillowscape” for my sofa’s and chairs, I always consider the measurements of the pillows and how the sizes will work together first. For my sofa, I typically choose a standard size square of 18″ and 20″ for most of my pillows. This size works for most sizes of chairs and sofas, so it’s a safe size to chose. I sometimes find a larger 22″ to 26″ pillow that I love and want to work into the mix. If that happens, I always position the pillows largest to smallest, with the largest pillow sitting in the back. These gorgeous pillows from World Market (Tassel Pillow, Velvet Pillow , and Gold faux cowhide pillow range from 18″ to 20″ in size.
Normally I will use an odd number of pillows for my pillowscape on sofas and benches. This isn’t a hard and fast rule however. Feel free to mix it up. But I am usually a sucker for symmetry! I will get 3 sets of different pillows to go on either side of my long sofa. Obviously if your sofa isn’t 108″ long like mine is, you might not be able to have six pillows across the back. In this pillowscape, using the World Market pillows, I chose three different pillows that I thought worked well together and placed them mirroring each other on both sides of the sofa. For chairs, depending on the size of the chair, I will usually only use one or two pillows. If I use two pillows, the second chair pillow should be smaller or lumbar size.
Make sure you use different textures, colors and patterns when planning the pillows and throws to use in your space, as I did with this World Market pillowscape. This is especially important if you’re using a neutral color palette…you don’t want your room looking plain or boring with all the same color and textures! Here I combined several different textures including fringe, cowhide fur, velvet, and wool. I love how these beautiful pillows work together. The similar tones in each pillow help to create a cohesive look, without being matchy-matchy. Mixing patterns an textures is also a great way to bring visual interest and a cozy (less formal feeling) into your space!
I never feel like my pillowscape is complete without a cozy blanket added to the mix! This super soft blanket from Sackcloth & Ashes is the perfect addition to my fall pillow and throw line-up! I love the tribal print and the fact that it’s oversized, big enough for snuggles with the whole family! What’s even more amazing is that when you buy one of these gorgeous blankets, you will be helping to give back to someone in need! World Market is partnering with Sackcloth & Ashes to provide the homeless population blankets this winter…one of the most basic an necessary needs! For every blanket purchased at World Market, Sackcloth & Ashes will donate a blanket to a California homeless shelter!
