Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Hey friends! I’ve been talking about giving my (almost) teen daughter’s room a sophisticated makeover for over a year now. When we moved into this house, besides picking out the paint color of her room (the light blue/green color is Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams), my daughter didn’t really get a say into what her room would look like.
We bought a bunk bed when we lived in an apartment about 4 years ago. My middle son and oldest daughter had to share a room in this apartment, so the bunk bed was the only solution. My daughter used the bunk bed once we moved into our previous house, and it was useful especially when she had sleepovers with friends. However, after owning a bunk bed for many years I will say that A) it is a pain to make and B) my daughter could never comfortably sit and hang out in her bed because the top bunk was too low! I only tell you this because I wish I had know this before we bought the bunk bed! Make sure you can sit up on the bottom bunk!
When we started talking about doing a room makeover, my daughter mentioned she wanted a more sophisticated/grown-up look. She requested no pillows with words on them and nothing with sequins! LOL! I knew I wanted to add a feature wall to break up the light blue/green colored walls…but I also knew my DIY skills are very limited (so shiplap and real wall paper were not an option!).
So when Rocky Mountain Wall Decals contacted me to see if I was interested in their products, I was so excited! I worked with the company to create a custom wall mural for my daughter’s wall that would compliment the existing color and also reflect the grown up look she wanted for her room. I love the gorgeous color and whimsical look of this floral wall mural. You can check it out on their website, Rocky Mountain Wall Decals.
The mural only took me about an hour to install by myself. It comes in strips and it’s just a peel and stick application process! The best part is, if my daughter decides to change up her room again (though it won’t be for a looooong time!), the decal just easily peels off!
I decided to purchase this gorgeous canopy bed and matching side tables from Pottery Barn Teen to give the room a classic feel. I love how the bed looks with the mural behind it!
When choosing the bedding, I wanted something that would be versatile, something neutral that would work with different pillows, and something that wouldn’t compete with the bold wall mural. I found this simple and classic duvet set at Pottery Barn.
These gorgeous throw pillows are from Willow Skye Home. I absolutely love these spa blue antelope print pillow. I thought they worked perfectly with the color scheme and gave the room a touch of youthful fun! And I decided on this gorgeous blush pink pillow to give the room a subtle pop of color.
My daughter’s room has this great little cutout where the window is. While a built-in window seat would’ve been great there, we tried to think of a stylish and budget friendly seating solution instead. When I found this beautiful linen storage bench from Joss & Main, I knew it would work perfectly in the space! I love that the top opens up and we can store blankets and other things out of view in my daughter’s room. I got this turquoise rug from Joss & Main too! It’s super soft and the colors work so well with the colors in her room.
I also found this pretty watercolor floral canvas from World Market with blue colors mirror the wall mural!
Lastly, my daughter needed a study space in her room, so I found this light colored wood campaign desk from World Market. I found the chair at Homegoods, but here is a link to similar one.
I hope you enjoyed this tour through my daughter’s room makeover! Both my daughter and I are so happy about how it turned out! Below, I have included the affliate links to the products seen in this room!
