Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Hey friends! Last December, we did a makeover on my oldest daughter’s bedroom. We replaced her bunk bed and little girl accents with a more mature space for her. We completed a big portion of the makeover last year, but then things got busy…as life often does, and we never finished her room! So when Walmart wanted to partner with me to show how to get your house ready for the holidays, I knew this would be a great opportunity to finally finish her room! We often have guests stay in my oldest’s daughters room, so I wanted to make sure that her space was completed and ready for holiday visitors!

The first project I wanted to tackle was a gallery wall over my daughter’s dresser. This is the first time I’ve attempted a true gallery collage wall in my house. Creating a gallery wall that looks cohesive (and not too cluttered), is no easy feat! Luckily, I found these really pretty Better Homes & Gardens brand gold and wooden frames at Walmart that I knew would look amazing together. On the back of the gold frames, the packaging even had several different examples of gallery wall layouts! So as I was standing in the store, I was able to figure out how many frames and the sizes of frames I would need to create the gallery wall I had in mind. My favorite frame I found at Walmart, was the adorable heart shaped wooden frame. It’s always good to throw in different shapes, sizes, and textures when creating a gallery wall to give it a unique and interesting look.
Once I got all the frames home, I found some inexpensive art online, which I printed out on my own printer and placed in the frames. I made sure that while the prints weren’t matching, they all had an element that was similar or worked together. For example, I chose prints with either pink or blue color schemes, and ones that had a graphic and/or nature theme to it. My teenage daughter approved of all the prints, so I knew I did a good job picking ones that were mature enough for her new more sophisticated space.
After all the frames were ready to go with their respective prints, I measured the width and height of the wall space where the gallery wall would be placed, and I marked those measurements on the floor. I then placed the frames on the ground and spent a while arranging and rearranging the collage until I found the arrangement that looked best! You can see from the finished product, that I threw in some other items into the mix, including a heart shape pin board, a paper flower, as well as another wooden frame that I already had around the house in order to achieve the gallery wall look I was going for.
Next, it was time for hanging. Luckily with this type of arrangement, exact height and distances between frames is a little less crucial. My husband helped to hang, as we started with the very center frame and worked off of that one to figure out the spacing. If you were doing a more linear gallery wall, then you definitely would want to break out the tape measure and laser level. With this free form style of gallery wall, however, we mostly just eye-balled what looked good! It only took about 10 minutes to get all the frames up, and I was so happy with the results!
The next thing we wanted to do in my daughter’s room to complete the space, was to add a comfortable and functional seating area in the corner of her room. Previously, we had a bench under the window, but it was never used for actual seating. If guests stay in this room, we wanted a place for them to be able to actually sit, read a book, or just relax. I found this gorgeous velvet Better Homes & Gardens Marlow accent chair on Walmart.com. I can’t believe that this beautiful, high quality chair was only $169 (plus free shipping)! When it arrived, it only took me 3 minutes to put the legs on myself and it was ready to go! Such amazing style and value in this fun chair. I decided on this blush color to bring in a new accent color to her room and contrast with all the blue.
The last step to completing my daughter’s sophisticated room was to bring in an element of glam to play off of all the wood and soft colors. Did you know that Walmart.com has a feature where you can search for products within a specific design style? Whether your style is Farmhouse, Boho, Transitional, or Coastal you can find inspo pictures and products that will help you achieve the design style you are going for! I loved looking through the “Glam” style decor page on Walmart’s website for inspiration for my daughter’s room.
I found this gorgeous gold Better Homes & Gardens Nola bookshelf and a matching round gold metal mirror on Walmart.com. I love the touch of shine that these pieces bring into the space. The bookshelf will be perfect for my daughter’s extensive collection of Disney collectibles (not shown)…our deal was that she gets to “restyle” the bookshelves after I’m done with this project! ???? In addition to being beautiful additions to my daughter’s room, I couldn’t believe the price of these great quality pieces! The bookshelf is less than $100 and the mirror is less than $50!
In addition to these glam gold accent pieces we added to the space, I also needed to replace my daughter’s bedding. After an unfortunate washing machine debacle ???? , her previous white duvet was ruined! So I was so excited to find this inexpensive, yet beautiful, pintuck comforter set from Walmart! It is super soft and light enough that she can actually make her bed with ease (her old duvet was quite heavy!). At $54 for the full size set, the price made our need to replace the old duvet a little less painful! Adding some pink velvet pillows and a pink throw, helped to tie in the new accent color.
Getting the approval of a teenage daughter is often elusive, but my daughter was so happy with how her room turned out! With just a few inexpensive furniture pieces and a new gallery wall, we were able to completely transform this space on a very small budget (and within a few hours time)! The room is now ready to go for any holiday guests this winter! Make sure you check out Walmart this holiday season for getting your house ready for the holidays! Thanks for stopping by and for helping to support the amazing companies that help me run my page!
