Welcome to My Texas House! Thanks for stopping by! My website is the best resource for sources, links, photos, and all the details on my home and the My Texas House brand.
Hey friends! I finally got around to updating some things in my kitchen and living room that I’ve been wanting to do for over a year now! When we built our house over three years ago, I found two beautiful farmhouse style pendant lights at the famous Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas. At the time, I was really wanting to go with an industrial/modern farmhouse style home. I still love those black pendants (see below), but my style has started to change and morph into something a little different since building our home. I’m finding myself leaning more toward more of a modern coastal farmhouse with a little French country look versus a rustic or industrial farmhouse style. My house obviously still has many rustic elements, but I’m trying to adapt what I have to fit better with the look that I’ve been gravitating toward more recently.

I found these gorgeous polished nickel pendant lights from Birch Lane! I love how they give the space more of a polished and open feel. I feel like these were made for our kitchen! I’m absolutely in love!!!! Even my oldest daughter commented that she felt like these fit better with our kitchen than our old ones! I am so happy that I stumbled across them on Birchlane.com. Birch Lane (and the entire Wayfair brand including Jossandmain.com and Wayfair.com) has definitely become my go-to stop for all things home decor and furniture. I find that if I see a really beautiful furniture piece or lighting fixture, but it is way out of my budget, I can always find something that looks just like it on Birch Lane! These beautiful lantern style pendant lights are incredibly affordable at just over $200 a piece! I had seen some pendant lights on another site that looked just like these, but cost $2400! So I was so thrilled when I found a much less expensive, but no less beautiful option!
These lights actually come with glass inserts, but we decided to try them without the glass for ease of cleaning. I’ve had pendant lights with glass before and I know it becomes quite a chore to constantly have to clean the glass. So far, I’m loving these pendants without the glass…I don’t even notice it’s missing. And cleaning them is going to quick and simple!
As you can from these pics, I also opted to change out my bar stools! Again, I loved my old wood bar stools, but I wanted something that looked a little more polished and had the coastal farmhouse look I’ve been loving lately. Additionally, I felt that with the new polished nickel pendants, the space called for a lighter, brighter bar stool to compliment them! I chose these beautiful white Riviera counter stools from Serena & Lily (they are currently on sale!). These Riviera counter stools are just as sturdy and kid-friendly as my old bar stools, which is a huge plus. I love how they have a curved back which compliments the archways I have in this space.
I also updated my kitchen nook. I’ve been wanting to change out the chairs in that space for a while. I actually prefer the look of my round back linen chairs in my dining room better, so I moved them in there. In addition, because those chairs had linen fabric on them, we never really had the kids sit there….which is not really practical. So I found these pretty white slat back chairs from Birch Lane. I love how they instantly give the space a softer, more airy look! Best of all, my kids can no safely sit at this table without fear of ruining the chairs! These chairs are so affordable too! You can get 2 of them for under $100! Such an incredible deal!
I actually have one more project for this space… I’m planning on replacing this light fixture with a slightly smaller, white chandelier. Again, I feel like it will help this space feel more light and airy and not look so formal! I will be changing the chandelier out after the first of the year…so stay tuned for that!
Next, another item that I’ve been dying to change is my coffee table. I love my old coffee table, but the black stone top made it seem so dark in my living space and as I mentioned above, I’m trying to steer away from the really rustic look. I’ve actually always wanted one of these balustrade style coffee tables for this space, but they are not easy to find in the large size I needed and also they are often very expensive! After scouring the internet, I was so excited to find this gorgeous balustrade coffee table on Birch Lane’s website. The dimensions of 60inches in width by 40 inches in depth which worked perfect to compliment my large 108″ sofa. And more importantly the was right at around $800!!! Other large scale balustrade coffee tables like this I’ve seen are well over $2000! I love the gorgeous medium wood tone to the table, as well as the bottom shelf. I still need to find some more coffee table books and possibly some pretty baskets to store there!
Lastly, I added some new pillows to my sofa. The lumbar style textured pillow and the beautiful patterned pillow in the back are from Serena & Lily. And the two pillows (the white linen pillow and the geometric pillow) in the middle are from Motif pillows on Etsy. Mixing different textures and patterns allows me to be able to do a neutral pillowscape, without it looking boring. I love how all these pillows work together to create a gorgeous neutral look and each one is so unique and lovely in their own way!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the changes I’ve made in this space! I hope you love them. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!
